Noah's Ark was a place of safety in the storm. At ACF, we strive to be a safe community where we grow together in Jesus and care for each other.
Christmas Greetings From Pastor Kevin
Christmas time has come once more. It is a time for children and music and presents and spending time with friends and family. But Christmas is so much more than that. Christmas is the celebration of the birth of the One who came into the world to die for our sin and to give us life. The name Christmas itself (Christ’s mass) points us to the reality behind the gift giving, carol singing and goodie eating we engage in at this time of year.
The celebration of Christmas actually begins with Advent, a season of looking expectantly for the return of Jesus while we remember His first coming to the earth. Advent is celebrated on the four Sundays before Christmas and was originally observed with penitence and fasting. Observing Advent (even without the penitence and fasting) helps us to excitedly look forward to the return of Jesus to put an end to sin, sorrow, sickness and death, the culmination of what was put into effect by the death and resurrection of our Lord.
We celebrate Christmas because of the death and resurrection of Jesus. If Jesus did not die and rise again His birth would mean nothing. We purchase gifts for one another because God gave us the greatest gift possible, new life in His Son. Our gift giving actually has theological meaning. We give gifts to one another to celebrate the gift that was given to us. We give because God gave to us.
At the Ark we observe a joyful Advent. We read the Scriptures about Jesus who came to be our Savior and will return to renew, recreate and restore the heavens and the earth. We read prophecies from the First Testament and Second Testament as well as the story of the birth of Jesus. We will sing music which points us to the reality of Jesus our Savior and coming King. We worship together and revel in the good news that in Jesus we have forgiveness, peace with God and eternal life. Our season of Advent will culminate in Christmas Eve worship early that evening as we join in welcoming the newborn King.
Ark Christian Fellowship is a place for community and belonging. We live in a world that seems to separate people from each other, dividing by age, race or status. At the Ark, our goal is to reflect the body of Christ as Paul commanded it should be: "neither male nor female, Jew nor Greek, slave nor free." All people are welcome to find refuge from the storms of life and seek community at the Ark.
Worship at Ark Christian Fellowship is characterized by joyful, informal reverence. We recognize God as our Creator, who loved us so much He sent His Son into the world to give us life and dwells in our hearts by the power of the Holy Spirit. Children are welcome to remain in worship or to enjoy special activities for them during the sermon. All who know Jesus are invited to share at His table every week.
We sing hymns and praise music, each song chosen to reflect the Biblical values of worship. Pastor Kevin preaches through the Bible and different worshipers read the texts and lead in prayer each week. Each week we take a coffee break just before the sermon. We eat goodies and drink coffee or tea and enjoy one another's company for a few minutes before returning to study God's Word together.
At Ark Christian Fellowship we remember our place in the body of Christ by praying for one another and for missionaries we support. We also pray for people who are imprisoned because of their trust in Jesus. We participate in missions through our giving and our actions. One of our missions projects is sending a young woman in Zambia through university. She is the daughter of a pastor in Zambia and we have joyfully accepted responsibility to help her achieve a college education.
Ark Christian Fellowship is a group of people who wish to follow Jesus. We aren't perfect but we love Jesus and care about each other. We sing together, eat together, worship together and laugh together. If you need a place of community and caring I hope you will increase our fellowship by joining us in worship.
