Why the Ark? The Ark was a place of refuge for Noah and his family as they rode through the flood. Our goal is to be a place of refuge where people who want to follow Jesus may worship and fellowship together in the middle of good times as well as in the midst of the troubles and storms of life. For us, fellowship is not about the where, it is about the Who. We worship Jesus, worshiping Him together as people who want to follow Him. We don't follow Him perfectly but we want to focus on Him in our time together.
Worship, at the Ark, is characterized by joy and fellowship. When we gather on Sunday to honor our Lord Jesus we experience joy together, as we focus on seeking intimacy with our Creator, through our Lord Jesus Christ in the power of the Holy Spirit. The fellowship we have with one another as the body of Christ deepens our commitment to seek fellowship with God. The fellowship we have with God deepens our desire to share with one another and bear one another's burdens as a community.
Our style of worship is intended to foster relationships with God and one another. Worship is characterized by informality and a deep reverence for God, centered on His Word. Recognizing that God is the audience in worship we sing songs that are focused on Him as we draw together to study His Word. Even the "sermon" is informal as the pastor keeps his coffee cup close at hand and welcomes questions during the teaching. Each Sunday we gather at the Lord's Table to commemorate His life, death, and resurrection and look forward to sharing at His table in God's eternal kingdom.
Music is led by the "Minstrels of the Ark." Our goal is to lift high the name of Jesus and to honor Him with the best of our gifts as we sing and worship together. We sing hymns, spiritual songs and psalms. The message of the music is far more important than the style so we learn old hymns and new songs together.
We worship in a comfortable room each Sunday, thanks to the generosity of Whitehurst Chapel. Yes, the chapel is a place where people gather to commit loved ones into God's keeping and be reminded of the truth and power of the resurrection of our Lord Jesus Christ, the resurrection that gives each of us our hope of resurrection and eternal life with Him. I can't think of a more appropriate place for followers of Jesus to gather. We hope that you will visit the Ark and see if it fills the desire of your heart to worship God with joy and fellowship.
We gather each Sunday at 9:00 for Bible Study and 10:00 for worship, at 1525 E. Saginaw Way, in Fresno. The chapel is located just west of Blackstone, between Griffith and Dakota. Look for our blue sign to point youin the right direction.
